Solid state start relay for Ducati / Yamaha

13/2/2020

Lighter weight / Better performance

Compatibility - Yamaha R1 from 2015 , Ducati 899 , 959 , 1199 , 1299 , V2 , V4

This compact Mosfet driven start solenoid was created specifically with bikes on mind as well as having a ‘plug and play’ connector and mounting adaptor. Simply fit it, any connect the wires.

Unlike standard start solenoids these devices feature:
  • Lighter weight (standard 120g, this device 36g)
  • Provide a linear 170amp power delivery to the starter motor enabling better starting even with poor battery condition, and better battery charge life (more starts per charge) – Known as ‘Soft Start’
  • Thermal cut-out to save overheating of the starter motor
  • Automatic thermo re-set 30 amp fuse rather than the plug in type on the standard solenoid.
  • No need for re-circulation diodes in the wiring
  • Lower voltage drop than mechanical relays so more starting torque
  • Sealed for life and no moving parts.

Supplied with a rugged adaptor to provide protection of the power terminals and a base to re-use the original rubber mount.

Rubber mounting is not needed, we only provide this to make installation simpler.

No re-wiring is needed, this plugs into the existing bike wiring connectors.

New range of 'Type C' switches for the Kawasaki ZX10 - 2016 onwards

8/11/2019

Type ‘C’ switches – These products evolved from continued customer requests that they needed more space on the handlebars. Slimmer bikes, narrow bars and bulky ride by wire throttle grips all leave less space for switches, so we designed the Type ‘C’ range.

Most bike use a ‘2 bolt’ clamp design to hold the brake pump on the right and the clutch pump/clutch post on the left. We remove this clamp and replace it with one of ours. This new clamp than has an angled face and mounting holes to fit any of our Type C switches.

Currently we have 8 different clamps to suit most manufacturer layouts and we supply one clamp of your choice free with each Type C switch. If you change your brake or clutch parts at a later date, no problem, just change the clamp, not the whole switch.

These are now available as 'plug n play' for the Kawasaki ZX10 from 2016 to suit both the standard and KIT wiring systems.

Tech notes : Ducati V4 - ABS

I have decided to start pouring out some of the knowledge I have picked up over the years and for no other reason than ‘its good to share’

So as the whim takes I will be adding stuff on these pages and maybe some of it will be interesting or even useful.

This is the first entry.

---

Last year I spent a heap of time trying to figure out how to get rid of the ABS pump on the new Ducati V4, this was a spin off project while I was doing the same thing for the older 1199, 959 and 899.

The hardware wasn’t a problem as we already have a generic control board that can capture the wheel speed signals and then route them back over the CAN line. Easy, or at least it should be.
The first stages went pretty smoothly, just hacking CAN stuff and running the whole bike on a front and rear wheel speed simulator to get the system to react.

But like all CAN hacking the easy stuff is very easy, and the hard stuff can be seriously hard as there are so many bit flags, uneven channel alignments and just random stuff that seems to happen and no real way to truly understand what they all are, or what is important.

So after hundreds of hours and lots of riding with a data logger it eventually became apparent that we would never actually do this and still keep an element of safety.

The electronics package on the V4 is very clever and not all of it is inside the ECU. It works something like this.

- The ECU controls the throttles (no big surprise there), and probably has built in torque mapping for each gear

- The IMU (inertial platform) sends raw data about the bike movements to the ABS pump.

- The ABS pump also gets the wheel speed data, adds this to the IMU data, adds a bit more from the rider modes, more still from the brake pressures, stirs it all up with some fancy calculations and then spits out throttle (torque) corrections to the ECU both for acceleration and braking.

So to make a product that does all this would pretty much mean we are re-inventing all the work Bosch has done over the years and Ducati during their testing. And I’m not going down that road.

ABS bypass 'delete' module for Ducati

14/11/2018

This miniature lightweight module makes it possible to completely remove the large and heavy ABS pump from bikes that have been modified with direct acting brake lines.

Currently these pumps need to be retained on the bike as the wheel speed signals are connected here and then shared with other bike systems on CAN bus. Our module plugs into the speed sensors and then does the same sharing that the ABS pump did originally, it just does it in a smaller and lighter package.

We have now taken out Ducati dash conversion using the AIM MXL2 one stage further with full integration on the Ducati DTC control over CAN.

The rider can now switch between DTC levels from OFF through to 8 via a rotary switch alongside the dash (or on the handlebar) with the level displayed directly on the dash. Any DTC intervention is also shown using the 3 LEDs on the right side as a rising scale.

The MXL 2 logger programming has also been altered to record the front wheel speed as well as the rear, DTC level and DTC control response.

This additional programming and control switch is now available as an ‘add-on’ package to our normal AIM MXL dash kit.

Compatible with 1198 S (SP) , 1098R and 848 – Evo.

GP6 Ducati - Track day 'special'

10/9/2017

This very special bike started out from one man's desire to have the ultimate 'track day special'

So we took the decision early on to replace some elements of the original GP6 Ducati electronics package, and replace it with a more modern Magneti Martelli system that would be simple to use and no need for pit box full of engineers.

And here we have it, still with tractiopn control, ride by wire, up and down shifters etc....but a lot of complex things removed or simplified. Just put fuel in it and ride it.

This conversion includes a complete new wiring, ECU and some sensors but can be adapted to almost any other GP bike. Call or Email us if you are interested in getting your GP bike usable (or even running)

Thanks to Jakub Smrz for doing the shake down run seen here.
