Yet another original and interesting project for Boulder Motorsports in Colorado, and our first time fitting one of our Magneti Marelli SRT ECUs to the 848, and with RBW.
The overall bike build is very similar to other 1098,1198 bikes we have done together so the wiring layout and installation went very quickly and problem free.

For one day a year the centre of Brackley town near Silverstone is converted to a Mecca of all things motorcycling from custom to classic and current race bikes.
Yesterday was a superb day out with the weather on our side as bike like this immaculate 999RS of Barry Boughton thundered up the high street on the temporary race track.
Brackley Festival of Motorcycles
When does a day at work turn in to an awesome day at work?
Answer - When your customer tells you to bring your leathers and enjoy yourself blasting his collection of amazing bikes down the runway at full speed...
And these are all very real, not replicas:
We arrived on Thursday evening in Dallas Texas to some top notch T shirt weather and a full weekend of track tests planned with the Pierobon and 1199 race bikes. Yes we did check the weather forecast before we came but how bad can it really be in Texas ??
Friday morning was a very different scene with gale force winds, freezing rain and sub-zero temperatures with a forecast for it to get worse by Sunday. Our brave test pilot Darren Fry decided at one point it was worth a shot and managed to hold the bike upright on the ice for 2 laps at a pace more suited to.....well, something very slow. So after a long day cuddling the tyre warmers to stop fingers dropping off in the garage we all decided to cut our losses and head home, Darren back to the UK and me off up to Colorado for a bit more dyno testing at Boulder Motorsports.
Many thanks to Darren for coming along and I know he was disappointed not being able to really ride the 1199, next time...
Following a successful test of the new Ducati 1199 race bike at Thunderhill - CA a few weeks ago the bike was taken to Barber for a few more laps and race wins, then on to Daytona where I joined them for a final bit of system refinement. Shane Turpin has really taken to this new bike and the advances in electronic controls which give him far more possibilities during 'turn in' and rapid corner exit.
From the outset the times came crashing down as he improved on last years 1198 lap time, but he waited until the last day and the CCS events to really show what he could do, taking 3 more wins and stripping nearly half a second off the lap record which has stood for 9 years.
Maybe the most surprising aspect is that the bike is a relatively standard 1199s fitted with Akra exhaust, Ohlins replacement internals and a very mild engine tune by Boulder Motor Sport. With the major improvements coming from a revised chassis setup and the Bike Sport Developments electronics package.
Lots more to come from this bike with a heap of further developments planned for the winter, stay tuned...
The crew at Boulder Motor Sports took one of their 'customer owned' Pierobon X60R bikes down to Barber and then on to Daytona over the last couple of weekends and piled up a heap of wins in all classes in the hands of Shane Turpin.
This very special bike being the only only 2 Valve Pierobon Ducati in the world fitted with full Magneti Marelli SRT electronics, Drive by wire and clutch-less 'auto blip' shifting.
Electronics designed, built and programmed by us here at Bike Sport Developments.
Enjoy some video from Steve Metz as he powers his BMS prepared 1198 Ducati through his first ever laps of the Daytona speedway. Video is provided by our AIM Smarty CAM HD linked into the CAN systems of the Marelli SRT ECU. A beautiful bike on an awesome track.
On board footage shows his Marelli MDU 220 dashboard and it is worth listening out for the 'auto blip' clutch-less down-shifts made possible by the full Drive By Wire electronics package we built using Marelli SRT.
First 1199 Panigale fitted with the Bike Sport Developments race kit runs in the USA at Thunderhill - CA
This is the very first bike in the USA to be fitted with the Bike Sport Developments electronics kit and as usual the project has been driven by Brian Sharp at Boulder Motorsports in Colorado.
The bike took to the track yesterday for the first time and with Shane Turpin at the controls the bike put in over 50 solid laps while Brian, Joel and I worked on chassis and electronic setup, most of which were centered on optimizing the rear end grip and getting the 'Drive By Wire' throttle feel right for Shane.
More on this project in a few weeks...
Brian Sharp - The Ducati 1199 is an important bike both now and for several years to come, this project puts us to the forefront of aftermarket development for this bike in the USA. With the addition of re-flash capability providing 'blip' and 're-tune' functionality for more standard bikes, and this new 'top end' Marelli based kit for serious users we can provide our track customers with a complete range of hardware and electronics for all budgets
Great end to the weekend with a win in race 1 and 2nd in race 2, not bad from 13th on the grid...and 1st time out for the bike.
This AIM Smarty Cam HD video was taken on my Ducati 749 development bike at Jerez recently. Using an AIM ECU-Bridge I linked the camera to the CAN bus of the Nemesis TCS system making it easy to see throttle, tyre slip and of course TCS response.
I am not a race rider but my modest track day skills still enable me to get on the throttle with confidence knowing that the TCS is there to sort out any problems. It is also interesting to see the amount of low level TCS activation feeding in the power in a manageable way, avoiding the need to fix more significant slides after they have happened. I can honestly say that I never felt any of the TCS activation seen in this video.
The all new AIM Smarty Cam HD was delivered this week for us to install on our Ducati 749 test bike. This version is still pre-release but the setup using the Beta version of software was problem free even with the added complexity of driving CAN data from the Nemesis TCS system.
A full test will be carried out at Jerez later this month and I will upload video files as soon as I get back.
This product is not yet available from our web shop but we do expect customer versions to be available very early in October. Pricing is expected to be £725+vat for the Camera unit and an extra £125+vat for the optional GPS module which enables lap timing and circuit mapping to be embedded into the video.
This 2012 BSB 1199-RS bike was gathering dust up at JHP in Coventry until it was bought by a Ducati enthusiast who wanted the 'ultimate track day special' with all of toys put back on that are not allowed in BSB rules.
In just 3 weeks one of the Bike Sport Developments 1199 kit systems was modified to fit the RS spec bike.
Ducati / Pierobon X60R 1200 - First ever Pierobon fitted with full drive by wire and advanced Magneti Marelli electronics
This BMS prepared X60R is the very first Pierobon in the world to be fitted with a full Magneti Marelli SRT engine and chassis control system coupled with 'drive by wire' , and yes it did start on the very first touch of the button and idled perfectly.
Bike Sport Developments are responsible for all aspects of the electronic systems build from the design and production of the wiring through to mapping and track performance tuning.
