The Guernsey sprint event was a glories sunny day and a very relaxed affair with local competitors showing off their hardware and bravery between 2 walls and full speed turn just to spice things up. This was the first real test of the bike and I went along to make sure the rider was happy with the way it was setup. No problems and a pretty fast time of 10.7 on run 3, next stage is some development of the chassis that will allow the electronics to apply more power (sorry that the video was not Hi-deff, nor is it of the fastest run) | |

![]() The wiring system for this RC8 along with the main front sub-assembly is now complete and ready to slide onto the bike. I designed the complete system in a modular way so all of the main components are pre-assembled onto the standard 'fairing/dash' supports. These supports were however modified a little to give me clearance on certain components. Sub-looms have been made for the air-box, water temp and oil pressure switch making it possible to remove main components without disturbing the wiring, or wiring removal without lifting the air-box. Ride By Wire system installation pictures to follow. I am just waiting on one small part to arrive before final assembly. ![]() The design process for this KTM RC8 conversion is now just about over and the first new parts have been fitted to the bike enabling major components such as Marelli SRT ECU and MDU220 dashboard to be mounted. This new hardware platform sits snugly between the air intakes and also provides mounting locations for other devices such as the voltage regulator, accelerometers for traction control, light weight lithium battery and of course the Ride By Wire motor assembly which will be fitted later next week (picture below). All of the standard secondary butterfly valves, idle step motors and associated linkages within the air box have been removed as all of this is now handled by the RBW system. With the wiring construction well under-way and all of the new chassis sensors fitted I estimate 'fire up' within 2 weeks. More pictures to follow soon. ![]() This is the start of a completely new project and probably the first time it has ever been done. The customer is based in Guernsey and wants this brand new RC8 Track converted to full ride by wire with launch and wheelie controls for use as a drag bike. I plan to use the same Magneti Marelli SRT hardware as I do on other Superbike conversions but with a few tuning and component location changes. The bike only arrived this morning so I thought it would be good opportunity to keep this blog updated throughout the design and development stages, just so you can see what is involved over the next 2 months. |
